Saberes e Fazeres da Vila: uma empresa que nasceu com o objectivo de revitalizar o valor das nossas riquezas tradicionais, para que não fossem esquecidas mas reinventadas de forma dinâmica e inovadora. A nossa viagem começa em Manteigas, vila da Serra da Estrela, uma zona do país que apresenta um enorme potencial. Procuramos:
- Valorizar os habitantes de Manteigas, que perderam em grande número o seu emprego devido ao encerramento das fábricas de lanifícios que desde sempre caracterizaram esta região;
- Valorizar as matérias-primas que esta região oferece, nomeadamente as diversas plantas, ervas e frutos características da Serra da Estrela e o burel, lã pura e resistente, tradicionalmente usada na confecção das capas usadas pelos pastores da Serra;
- Valorizar os saberes da Serra, património único que não queremos deixar desvanecer no tempo, mas antes renovar em algo novo e surpreendente, gerando nova vida, dimensão e significado.
Iniciámos dois projectos diferentes:
Um, na área alimentar, com a marca PDF – Penhas Douradas Food. Criámos um novo conceito de produtos gourmet em que damos a conhecer o que de melhor há na Serra à luz de outros olhos…
Outro, na área têxtil, com a marca Burel Manteigas. Criámos na última fábrica de lanifícios da Vila um espaço de design e produção do burel, o tecido de lã mais tradicional na indústria de lanifícios local, agora utilizado de uma forma muito diferente e inovadora…
Acreditamos nos saberes e fazeres da Vila, em recriar o passado, tornando-o presente para ser sempre o agora.

We are a Portuguese company with a dynamic and innovative approach to our rich national heritage. Our project is based in Manteigas, in the Serra da Estrela region of central Portugal, which, as the only high-altitude mountain range of the country, has a unique climate, history, and culture.
Our aim is to bring to light some of the hidden treasures of this region, imparting to them new life and dimension. The underlying principles of our project are to make use of the resources (raw materials and products) that exist and can be produced in this region, to create employment in this area where many factories have recently closed down, and to draw on the rich history and knowledge that has evolved over time in this unique setting.
Using these principles, we developed two brands, one in the gourmet food sector, another in the textiles sector.
Penhas Douradas Food (PDF):
With the expertise of a well-known Portuguese chef, we created unexpected new recipes using traditional herbs, fruits, and cuisine of the Serra da Estrela. Our collection includes a variety of sweet and savoury products such as biscuits, chutneys, jams, and sauces, as well as other unique creations that bring to you the timeless flavours of the mountains within original and tasty recipes, imparting and uncovering what we believe to be the best of the Serra da Estrela.
Burel is an ancient and traditional wool product of the Serra da Estrela, developed to perfectly suit the demands of life in the mountains as a resistant, warm, and compact fabric. We have revived the production of this material in one of the last existing wool factories of Manteigas, creating products that bring together exciting new concepts and innovative design.
